Is talking about your problems a good thing?
I’m a big fan of being able to talk freely about your stresses and challenges.
You can find yourself subconsciously suppressing or avoiding talking about your difficulties and how they’re affecting you. Ironically this causes you to struggle more.
Having a supportive and compassionate counsellor or coach to listen can be extremely helpful, but here’s where this can become problematic.
When your stresses and challenges take over your world they can cloud important parts of your life.
When they become the whole focus of your life, you can start to lose your identity and lose touch with your values.
When you’re battling tough times it can feel all consuming.
You can feel buried by your problems and hopeless.
Tough times don’t last forever, but they will take longer to recover from if you end up losing your health or important relationships because of the stresses.
As a life coach I feel creating a space to talk openly is important, but just as important is helping people see their strengths, build resilience, work on their health, have quality relationships and implement positive behaviours.
Eventually there needs to be positive action to prevent being overwhelmed by difficult times.
