What kind of exercise do we do at TWPT?

As exercise specialists, it’s our job to help people exercise. What’s important to us is that our clients get great results in a quick, effective and fun way.

With every client that comes through the door, we will tailor personal training sessions to the individual. We take into account the client's likes, dislikes, goals, the type of exercise needed to get the results asked for, and we will constantly be assessing what is appropriate within an exercise session. We closely monitor each individual exercise to see if we can adapt it or make the exercise more effective or suitable for our clients.

We take all of this information and make a plan for the best way to hit our clients' goals.

What types of exercise do you include in your sessions?

At TWPT we’re lucky to have such a great team of trainers. Every one of our team has an individual approach to training.

Our trainers specialise in providing:

  • Resistance training
  • Boxing
  • Kick-boxing
  • HIIT
  • Strength training
  • Pre and post-natal programmes
  • Cardio
  • Injury recovery programmes

Here’s a little look at some of the exercise types we use at TWPT:

Boxing

Boxing is an amazing way to get fit! It torches calories, is great for both cardio and strength, and is one of the most fun and engaging forms of exercise. Hitting the pads is a great way to blow off some steam.

At TWPT we have four trainers that specialise in boxing and kickboxing, all of whom come from a background in martial arts. Our approach is to teach boxing techniques that we have learnt over many years of training with the aim to get people fit and help people lose weight.

Resistance Training

Resistance Training, otherwise known as weight training, uses resistance of some sort (for example bodyweight, or equipment such as dumbbells or strength machines) to challenge the body and improve appearance, but also increase the strength and durability of the body.

Resistance training has many benefits such as:

  • Strengthening connective tissues, tendons and ligaments
  • Making your body more robust and injury resistant
  • Burning calories whilst training
  • Improving muscle tone
  • Encouraging muscle growth
  • Preventing osteoporosis and sarcopenia (wasting of muscles due to age)
  • Helping control blood sugar levels
  • Due to the controlled environment of resistance training, it is great for the rehabilitation of injuries

There are so many benefits to resistance training that we would recommend that it forms part of any exercise programme. The best thing about resistance training is that resistance exercises can be adapted to the individual person so it is a very safe form of exercise to do. If you have a previous injury or are nervous about getting back into exercise, resistance training is a great place to start.

Pre and post-natal training

We’ve helped many clients train both while pregnant and also post pregnancy. The type of exercise required changes depending on the timeline of the pregnancy but, with the right guidance and expertise, exercise will help expectant and new mothers stay strong and have a healthy pregnancy and recovery.

Cardiovascular training

Along with resistance training, cardiovascular training is essential for maintaining a well-rounded healthy exercise programme. The good news is that you don’t need to stand on a cross trainer for an hour!

Our team offers a range of different options for getting benefits from cardio, often utilising boxing, kickboxing, battle ropes and HIIT. We also use our Nordic skiing machine, circuits, guided runs and sport specific training on the local tennis courts. We try and keep our cardio exciting and varied so that our clients can enjoy some of the benefits from cardio training such as:

  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Keeping joints healthy
  • Increasing serotonin levels and endorphins
  • Increasing lung capacity
  • Burning calories
  • Increasing bone density
  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Strengthening your heart
  • Decreasing the risk of heart disease
  • Helping tackle and prevent diabetes
  • Improving sports performance
  • Daily activities will feel much easier (such as walking up the stairs)

Cardio can be great fun and has one of the best feelings of achievement post-session. Our trainers at TWPT will be able to find a form of cardio, in a way that you enjoy.

Injury rehab

TWPT Goods Station Road has an on-site Osteopath that works with our trainers to help ease clients back into exercise post-injury. Our trainers are well qualified and experienced to work with lower back pain, shoulder and knee issues.

We’re also happy to work with your physiotherapist or osteopath and our trainers are experienced at being able to find a way of exercising that gets results while taking into account previous medical and injury history.

The studios

Our studios are set up to accommodate slightly different session types.

Mount Pleasant Road offers a mixture of boxing sessions, circuits and resistance/strength training and cardio. The trainers here are very dynamic and offer mixed sessions to improve fitness, muscle tone and strength.

Goods Station Road is set up for resistance training. We have some of the best resistance training equipment in the industry that allows us to set up and customise to the individual client. The trainers here are highly specialised in resistance training and provide mentoring to other personal trainers around the local area.

Find a way of exercising that you enjoy

The best results come from an exercise programme that you look forward to doing. If the sessions are fun and you see results you will get a better affinity for exercise, which better enables exercise to become part of your lifestyle.
