We caught up with Luke French one of our senior PT's at TWPT.

How long have you been in the fitness industry?

- 9 Years.

What do you enjoy doing outside of PT?

- I enjoy anything related to football. My Sundays are extremely football oreintated. Super Sundays are best. I also enjoy wining and dining. Going out for meals on Saturday nights in local restaurants and spending Sunday afternoon with family around a wholesome homemade meal. A little mention of F1 has to be in here too.

What does a typical session with you look like?

- Firstly a brief chat to reflect on the week, and make sure everything is going well. This is also a chance to make any adjustments or explore any solutions to problems presented by the previous week. Then we will get into strength work, based on performance, hypertrophy or rehabilitation type goals. The session will normally end with some enjoyable accessory work, or even some light conditioning for people wanting access to more cardiovascular fitness or simply want to end the session a little ‘spicy’.

Are you currently studying or reading anything at the moment?

- I am currently studying rapid fat loss protocols and how is as coaches can make them successful and sustainable. Second to that I’m studying the endocrine system at the moment with a large focus on how we can manage our hormones. Apart from that, I spend most my educational time creating content for other trainers to develop their own knowledge around the topic of Exercise Mechanics. I have created “The Education Hub” for this, a platform of easy to use video lectures for study and revision.

What do you do for your own training?

- At the moment a mix between hypertrophy type training with some metabolic conditioning, as well as a weekly dose of low intensity cardio work.

For someone new to health and fitness what’s your go to first bit of advice?

- Don’t look past the foundations of health. Initially we can’t get carried away with get fit quick, or fast fat loss programs that miss the true principles of long term success in these areas. Eat your greens, drink your water, be consistent with training. NOTHING FANCY. Build strong foundations and then we can sprinkle some of the more fancy stuff on top, when the time is right.

What approach do you take when it comes to nutrition?

- I take a very holistic, wholesome and healthy approach. I’m keen to get myself and my clients in a position where their food intake caters all their needs. Nutritional, performance and recovery requirements. Again, it’s the basics, but so often overlooked. From here I will create personal food choices and supplemental regimes based on clients specific needs, only once foundational nutritional practice is nailed.
